Jamie and Mark Phillips said they planned their wedding for Saturday so they could be married prior to the arrival of their son, but Jamie Phillips said the impatient infant began his descent into the world by giving her contractions while walking down the aisle at the Calvary Assembly of God in Toledo, The Toledo Blade reported Tuesday.
Phillips said she assumed the contraction was a false alarm until her water broke while she was eating at the reception.
"I don't think anybody expected it," Phillips said of the birth of her son, Tova Phillips. "It was a running joke, but when it actually happened everybody was like, 'You've got to be kidding!'"
The party was moved to Flower Hospital in Sylvania, where baby Tova was born.
Hospital staff said they had never seen a bride in labor before.
"I thought I'd seen all the firsts," said Clinical Manager Cindy Ziemkiewicz, who has worked for the hospital since 1975. "This shows you just never know."
