Kleybanova among early winners in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia -- No. 4-seeded Alisa Kleybanova cruised to a straight-set victory Monday in opening-round play at the $220,000 Malaysian Open tennis tournament.

Kleybanova blitzed Alicia Monk 6-1, 6-4 in just more than an hour. She lost just nine points over nine service games and faced only one break-point situation.

Fifth-seeded Melinda Czink and No. 8-seeded Olga Govortsova each fell in three sets. Czink was beaten by Zi Yan 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) in a match that took nearly 3 hours and in which Czink won eight more points than Zi.

Govortsova dropped a 6-4, 0-6, 7-5 decision to Anastasia Rodionova. Govortsova had four service breaks but three were in the second set and she had to fight through 16 break-point situations, losing three, herself.

Also, Bojana Jovanovski stopped Vitalia Diatchenko 6-3, 6-1; Ekaterina Ivanova got past Darya Kustova 4-6. 6-4, 6-2; and Ayumi Morita defeated Galina Voskoboeva 7-5, 6-4.

The Malaysian Open continues through Sunday when the champion will collect $37,000.
