Madonna's Malawi school plan sparks furor

Lilongwe, Malawi -- U.S. pop star Madonna's proposal to build a $15 million all-girls school in Malawi could displace more than 200 Blantyre villagers, E! News said Friday.

The singer adopted her two youngest children from the African nation and co-founded the charity Raising Malawi.

Although she offered the villagers an estimated $115,000 in compensation for their land and to help them resettle elsewhere, the villagers are refusing to move, E! News said.

The school reportedly has the support of the Malawian government and is expected to open in 2012.
