Dementieva to play in Paris semis

Paris -- Elena Dementieva, the runner-up last year and the top seed this week, rallied Friday to earn a semifinal berth in the Open GDF Suez in Paris.

Dementieva, twice a loser in the finals of a major championship but the owner of an Olympic gold medal, defeated Andrea Petkovic 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. She will meet Melanie Oudin in the semifinals after Oudin eliminated Agnes Szavay 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.

The other semifinal will send Flavia Pennetta against Lucie Safarova.

Pennetta was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Tathiana Garbin in the quarterfinals and Safarova defeated Shahar Peer 6-3, 6-0.
