Some Haifa-brand smoked fish recalled

The FDA said the Queens, N.Y., company initiated the recall of the vacuum-packed "Whole Schmaltz Herring" lot number 20 because the product of Norway was not properly processed and, therefore, would be more likely to contain Clostridium botulinum spores that produce botulism poisoning.

The recalled fish, a product of Norway, were packaged in clear plastic pouches and distributed in New York and New Jersey.

The FDA warned consumers not to use the product even if it does not appear or smell spoiled and should return it to the place of purchase. Consumers with questions can contact the company at 718-523-8899.
