Grains mixed with dollar down Monday

Chicago -- Grain futures closed mixed on the Chicago Board of Trade Monday although equity markets rose and the dollar index fell 0.33 percent.
Corn was up 2 1/2 to up 3 1/4, soybeans were off 2 1/2 to off 4 1/4, wheat was up 3/4 to up 1 1/2 and oats were unchanged to up 1/4. Corn futures rose as the Institute for Supply Management said manufacturing activity, including among food businesses, increased in January. Wheat prices rose despite export demand from the European Union increasing. Lower than expected soybean exports for the week put pressure on soybean prices Monday. The prices: Corn: Mar 3.59, up 2 1/2; May 3.70 1/4, up 2 1/2; Jul 3.80 1/4, up 2 3/4; Sep 3.87 1/2, up 3 1/4. Soybeans: Mar 9.09 3/4, off 4 1/4; May 9.20 3/4, off 4; Jul 9.28 3/4, off 4; Aug 9.24 1/2, off 2 1/2. Wheat: Mar 4.74 3/4, up 3/4; May 4.89 1/2, up 1 1/4; Jul 5.01 1/2, up 1 1/4; Sep 5.17 1/4, up 1 1/2. Oats: Mar 2.28, unchanged; May 2.37 1/2, up 1/4; May 2.45, up 1/4; Sep 4.53, up 1/4.
