BA flight crews to vote again on strike

London -- British union Unite said it would hold a second vote on an airline crew strike at British Airways after a court order thwarted a holiday work stoppage.

By a wide margin, airline crews voted for a 12-day strike to disrupt holiday travel in protest of a contract proposal that calls for schedule changes and staff reductions.

The courts intervened, ordering the airline crews back to work as the first ballot included staff members who had already accepted layoff agreements.

But union Assistant General Secretary Len McCluskey said with no progress made in contract talks, "we therefore have to honor our commitment to give our members the voice they were denied by the courts before Christmas."

"I have reiterated that we want talks to continue, and that the union is prepared to meet anyplace, anytime, to try and reach an agreement. I hope the company will make the best use of the time available before the ballot closes," he said.
