Austria's Katrin Zettel wins giant slalom

Maribor, Slovenia -- Austria's Kathrin Zettel won her first World Cup title of the season Saturday by taking the women's giant slalom in Slovenia.

Zettel compiled a combined time of 2 minutes, 36.22 seconds, edging Germany's Maria Riesch by 0.23 seconds.

Anja Paerson of Sweden was third. American Lindsey Vonn was in second place after the first run but hit a bump near the end of the second run and went off the course. "I just hit a rut," Vonn said. "I couldn't really see anything. I'm just so mad."

Zettel needed all her skills on the packed snow at Maribor but came away with her first win after seven podium appearances in the season.
