Federer to miss Davis Cup match

Logrono -- Roger Federer will not play for Switzerland in an opening round Davis Cup tie against Spain in March, officials said Tuesday.

The Swiss Tennis Federation said Switzerland also will likely be without its No. 2 player, Stanislas Wawrinka, whose wife is expected to give birth about the time of the best-of-five matchup, which is to be staged March 5-7 in a bullring in Logrono, Spain.

Federer has won 15 major titles but never the Davis Cup.

Spain is the two-time defending champion.
