Analysts say tech sector ready to rebound

Cambridge -- Market research firm Forrester predicted Tuesday U.S. spending on technology will rebound this year after sliding sharply in 2009.

Forrester forecast spending would jump 6.6 percent in 2010 after falling 8.2 percent last year, InformationWeek reported Tuesday.

"The technology downturn of 2008 and 2009 is unofficially over," Forrester analyst Andrew Bartels said in a statement.

On a larger stage, Forrester said worldwide spending on technology would expand 8.1 percent in 2010 to $1.6 trillion.

Worldwide spending on technology fell 8.9 percent last year.

The firm said the dollar's relative weakness would help Western and Central Europe to expand technology spending 11.2 percent this year. Canada is expected to spend an additional 9.9 percent on technology this year, followed by a 7.8 percent bump in spending in the Asia Pacific and 7.7 percent in Latin America.

"All the pieces are in place for a 2010 tech spending rebound. In the U.S., the tech recovery will be much stronger than the overall economic recovery, with technology spending growing at more than twice the rate of gross domestic product this year," Bartels said.
