Markets mixed before corporate reports

New York -- U.S. markets were mixed Monday morning with investors cautiously optimistic about the corporate reporting season, which begins after markets close.

In midmorning trading, the Dow Jones industrial average was off 0.07 percent, 7.78 points, to 10,610.41, weighed down by losses at American Express Co., down 1.24 percent and Walt Disney Co, off 1.41 percent.

The Standard & Poor's 500 dropped 0.03 percent, 0.33 points, to 1,144.65. The Nasdaq composite index rose 0.32 points, 0.01 percent, to 2,316.85.

The benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury bill rose 9/32 to yield 3.802 percent.

The euro rose to $1.451 from Friday's $1.4417. Against the yen, the dollar fell to 92.39 yen from Friday's 92.61 yen.
