Cilic repeats as champion in Chennai

Chennai -- Marin Cilic used a pair of wins in tiebreakers for a straight-set win Sunday and successful defense of his Chennai Open title in ATP play in India.

Cilic, from Croatia, nipped Swiss player Stanislas Wawrinka 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-3) in the title match. It was the first time in five career meetings that Cilic defeated Wawrinka.

Each player had his serve broken twice in the match -- once in each set.

Cilic's first-set break came with Wawrinka serving for the set and allowed him to be in position to dominate the tiebreaker.

Cilic was also cruising in the second tiebreak, building a 5-1 lead, before Wawrinka tightened things up. But Cilic put the match away by taking consecutive points.

Taking away Cilic's advantage in the tiebreak, each player won 81 points in the 2 hours, 40 minute match.

The win was the fourth career ATP championship for Cilic who collected $68,450 along with the title. Wawrinka fell to 1-6 in ATP final matches.
