Federer, who was won Doha twice, rolled over Belgian Christophe Rochus 6-1, 6-2, while Nadal easily handled Italian Simone Bolelli 6-3, 6-3 at Khalifa Tennis Complex's hard courts -- a tournament considered a tuneup for the Australian Open.
Federer posted his victory over Rochus in only 57 minutes, thanks to 12 aces and four service breaks.
Nadal dispatched Bolelli in 88 minutes. The Italian fell to 0-22 lifetime against Top 10 opponents.
Federer's second-round opponent Wednesday will be Russian Evgeny Korolev. Nadal has drawn another Italian, Potito Starace.
Third-seeded Nikolay Davydenko downed Kazakhstani qualifier Mikhail Kukushkin 6-2, 6-0 in 73 minutes Tuesday.
