Zhu Zhu Pets video games on the way

Santa Monica, Calif. -- The U.S. companies Activision Publishing and GameMill Publishing say they are developing video games inspired by the Zhu Zhu Pets line of toy hamsters.

The first game to be released in collaboration with the toy maker Cepia LLC will be for the Nintendo DS game system. It is set for release in the spring.

"Zhu Zhu Pets's success in 2009 speaks for itself and we're confident it will be even bigger in 2010," David Oxford from Activision Publishing said in a statement Tuesday.

"It is our goal to expand this proven franchise in a way that fans of the wildly popular hamster toy line and video gamers alike will embrace and love to play," added Gary Miller, president of GameMill Publishing.
