Reports: Series hero Matsui joins Angels

Anaheim, Calif. -- World Series hero Hideki Matsui is joining the Los Angeles Angels, The New York Times and ESPN reported Monday.

The veteran outfielder-designated hitter and the Angels have agreed on a one-year contract believed to be worth $6.5 million, the newspaper said.

Matsui was named Most Valuable Player of the 2009 series after slamming three home runs and driving in 13 for the New York Yankees, who beat the Philadelphia Phillies in six games.

The Angels told mlb.com they had no announcement about Matsui but sources said the team was waiting for the 35-year-old player to pass a physical.
