Germany's Riesch wins World Cup slalom

Levi, Finland -- Germany's Maria Riesch edged American Lindsay Vonn by a fraction of a second in Saturday's finals of the World Cup women's slalom at Levi, Finland.

The reigning World Cup champion tallied a combined time of 1 minute, 48:71 seconds, 0.08 seconds ahead of Vonn. Finn Tanja Poutianen placed third.

Vonn clipped a gate near the bottom of the course but maintained her balance and made it to the podium.

"It would have been nice to get the win again, but I had a big mistake at the bottom and Maria had a really good run so it's tough to say if I would have beaten her without that mistake," Vonn said.
