Djokovic was an easy 6-2, 6-2 winner over Frenchman Arnaud Clement, while 13th-seeded Radek Stapanek of the Czech Republic beat Murray in a late match 1-6, 6-4, 6-3, his first win over the Scotsman in four career matches.
Djokovic secured a spot in the last eight for the first time in five appearances by improving his 2009 match record to 73-18.
Murray lost his match despite winning the first set in just 23 minutes.
Also winning Thursday were second-seeded and world No. 2 Rafael Nadal of Spain, ninth-seed Robin Soderling of Sweden, defending champion and No. 8 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France, 15th-seeded Gael Monfils of France and Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina, the No. 5 seed who was tied with 10th-seeded Fernando Gonzalez, 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (8-6), when his Chilean opponent retired with right knee pain.
