Crude oil prices slip Friday morning

New York -- Crude oil prices held under $77 per barrel in the New York Mercantile Exchange Friday despite the dollar index slipping 0.23 percent.

Movement of the dollar tends to push oil prices in the opposite direction with a strong dollar sending prices down and a weaker dollar supporting gains.

Friday morning, the prices of light, sweet crude lost 34 cents to $76.60 per barrel. The price of heating oil slipped 0.0115 cents to $1.9795 per gallon.

Reformulated gasoline prices lost 0.0063 cents to $1.9342 per gallon.

At the pump, the national average price of unleaded gasoline dropped Friday to $2.645 per gallon from Thursday's $2.65, AAA said.
