Abreu, 35, played his 14th Major League season in Anaheim after the New York Yankees allowed him to become a free agent by not offering him a contract after the 208 season. He hit .293 with 15 homers, 29 doubles, 30 stolen bases and 103 RBI in 563 at-bats for the Angels.
"The last three or four seasons have been (basically) the same (statistically)," Abreu said Thursday on the Angels' Web site. "My first time with them, I was very close to the World Series (so) why not stay? This is a team that gives you an opportunity to be in the playoffs."
With his seventh straight 100 RBI season, Abreu, a career .299 hitter, matched Albert Pujols and Alex Rodriguez.
Also, he has stolen at least 20 bases in 11 straight seasons.
