Denver -- Gorilla-suited runners broke a Guinness World Record in Denver while raising money for a gorilla-conservation fund, the organization's officials said.

Crowding Denver streets and bike paths, the 1,061 participants in a charity run broke the record for the most gorilla-garbed people in one location, the Denver Post reported Sunday.

The pseudo-simians participated in the 6th annual Denver Gorilla Run, a 3.5-mile walk/run to help the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund, which is raising money to augment a Ugandan training facility that teaches local veterinarians how to care for mountain gorillas in their country, the newspaper reported.

The fun run's winners were Mark Lucas, who completed the approximately 3.5-mile run in 22 minutes, and Ann Flynn who clocked 29 minutes, the newspaper reported.

The run's entry fee of $99.95 gave runners a gorilla suit they could keep, the Post reported.
