U.S. market wobble turns to slump

New York -- U.S. markets turned shaky Friday plunging with a reversal of fortune, stocks down and the dollar up in early afternoon trading.

Reports by McDonalds and 3M boosted stocks Thursday. But markets turned lower Friday, with technology stock mostly resisting the decline.

At midday, the Dow Jones industrial average was off 1.29 percent, 130.37 points, to 9,950.94. The Standard & Poor's 500 lost 1.38 percent, 15.12, to 1,077.79. The Nasdaq composite of tech-dominated stock lost 0.55 percent,
11.99, to 2,153.30.

The benchmark 10-year Treasury fell 16/32 to yield 3.479 percent.

The euro fell to $1.502 from Thursday's $1.5028. Against the yen, the dollar rose to 91.99 from Thursday's 91.28 yen.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 index added 15.82, 0.15 percent, to 10,282.99.

In Britain, the FTSE 100 index rose 0.68 percent, 35.21, to 5,242.57.
