The Crimson Tide (6-0) increased its first-place mentions to five ballots in the poll released Monday, four more than last week but Alabama remained ranked No. 3. All of those first-place votes came from Florida (5-0), which lost the votes despite a win over former No. 4 Louisiana State.
Florida has 53 of the 59 first-place votes. Texas (5-0), for the third consecutive week, is No. 1 on one ballot.
LSU's 13-3 loss to Florida dropped the Tigers (5-1) to 10th, a drop of six spots matched by Missouri (4-1), which is 24th. The Missouri Tigers lost to Nebraska (4-1), which was up five this week to 17th.
Virginia Tech (5-1) took over the No. 4 spot while Southern California leap-frogged No. 6 Boise State (5-0) into fifth. Ohio State (5-1) is seventh followed by No. 8 Texas Christian (5-0) and ninth-ranked Cincinnati (5-0).
Miami (Fla.) (4-1) remained No. 11 but Iowa (6-0) was voted into 12th, passing No. 13 Penn State (5-1) and 14th-ranked Oklahoma State (4-1). Kansas (5-0) is No. 15.
Oregon (5-1) took over the No. 16 spot, followed by Nebraska and Oklahoma (3-2), No. 19 Brigham Young (5-1) and No. 20 Georgia Tech (5-1). South Florida (5-0) is up three to No. 21 followed by South Carolina (5-1), Houston (4-1), Missouri and Notre Dame (4-1).
South Carolina, Houston and Notre Dame were unranked last week. Mississippi, Auburn and Wisconsin dropped out of the poll.
