The FDA said Affy Tapple LLC of Niles, Ill., is voluntarily recalling its "Limited Edition – Classic Candy Flavors" two-pack caramel apples because the label did not include the allergen statement "manufactured on shared equipment with peanuts and tree nuts." Consumers who have an allergy to peanuts might suffer a serious allergic reaction if they consume a product containing such ingredients, the FDA said.
The recall applies only to packages with a "Best By" date on or before "10/15/09."
The product, sold in a clear plastic package with a dark brown label, was distributed in Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Ohio and Kentucky.
Company officials said consumers who are not allergic to peanuts or tree nuts face no safety risk.
Consumers can return the product for a refund or contact Affy Tapple at 847-929-6534.
