MLB: NY Mets 7, Houston 1

New York, Oct. 2 -- Jeff Francoeur gave New York the lead with a two-run homer in the sixth Friday and the Mets went on to defeat Houston 7-1.

Francoeur had three hits and scored twice to help the Mets halt a three-game losing streak. His home run gave New York a 3-1 lead and Daniel Murphy came through with another two-run blast during a four-run eighth.

John Maine (7-6) closed out his season with an outstanding effort, giving up a run on five hits over seven innings. He struck out seven and did not walk a batter in his longest outing of the season.

The Astros lost on the road for the 11th time in 13 games. Wandy Rodriguez (14-12) took the loss, giving up three runs on eight hits in six innings.
Miguel Tejada extended his hitting streak to 19 games.
