MLB: Washington 4, New York Mets 3

Washington, Sept. 29: Rookie Ian Desmond homered and Washington scored the winning run on an error in the eighth Tuesday to beat the New York Mets 4-3.

J.D. Martin went six innings for Washington, allowing three runs on seven hits.

Tyler Clippard (3-2) worked two innings of scoreless relief to earn the win.

Angel Pagan went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI for the Mets, who have lost six of their last eight games. David Wright was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Carlos Beltran also had an RBI for New York.

Mike Pelfrey worked seven innings, giving up three runs on eight hits. Sean Green (1-4) gave up the unearned run in the eighth to take the loss.
