Oakland, Calif., Sept. 23: Trevor Cahill held Texas to one run and led the Oakland Athletics to a 9-1 victory over the Rangers Tuesday.

Cahill (10-12) limited the Rangers to six hits in 5 2/3 innings and knocked them down to seven games in back of Boston in the American League wild-card hunt.

Texas' loss also allowed the New York Yankees to clinch a berth in the AL playoffs.
