KC first baseman AL Player of Week

New York -- Kansas City first baseman Billy Butler was named Monday the American League Player of the Week.

Butler hit .419 (13-for-31) with two home runs and a major league-best 12 runs batted in in seven games this past week. He also had an AL-best 24 total bases and tied for the major league lead with five doubles.

Butler had a .774 slugging percentage in taking his second career weekly award. He also earned the honor for the week ending Aug. 9.
