Hudson, who spent a year recovering from the surgery, held the Marlins to two runs on six hits and struck out five in 5 1/3 innings, in a contest that was delayed nearly three hours by rain.
Hudson injured his right elbow July 23, 2008, pitching against the Marlins. He underwent surgery last August.
Brian McCann had two hits and an RBI and Garret Anderson drove in a run for the Braves, who scored their other runs on a double-play ball by Chipper Jones and a third-inning balk by Anibal Sanchez that brought Hudson in.
Sanchez (2-6) took the loss, giving up three runs and five hits over five innings.
Jorge Cantu had three hits and two RBI for the Marlins. Chris Coghlan had three hits and drove in a run and Dan Uggla homered in the ninth.
