Chicago, Aug. 27: Koyie Hill and Derrek Lee had two-run doubles in a six-run eighth Wednesday that broke open a close game and gave the Chicago Cubs a 9-4 win over Washington.

The Cubs had only a 3-2 lead before sending 10 men to the plate in the eighth.

Chicago won for the third time in nine outings and stayed a distant nine games behind St. Louis for the lead in the National League Central.

Milton Bradley added a homer and drove in three runs for the Cubs, who piled up 13 hits.

Angel Guzman (3-3) got the win with an inning of work in relief of starter Rich Harden.

Washington lost for the seventh time in nine games and dropped its 82nd contest of the season.

Livan Hernandez, signed by Washington Tuesday, got the start and went six innings, allowing two runs on five hits. Hernandez did not figure in the decision.

Jason Bergmann (2-3) suffered the loss, giving up the go-ahead run in the seventh on a fielder's choice grounder by Bradley.
