Francoeur was injured while making a diving catch in the ninth inning of a 9-7 Mets loss to the Philadelphia Phillies Sunday. He stayed in the game and hit into a triple-play that ended the contest in the bottom of the inning.
"From what I understand, (the thumb) swelled up overnight," Mets Manager Jerry Manuel said.
Francoeur has been with the New York club since he was traded by Atlanta July 10. He is batting .305 with six homers and 243 RBI in 39 games with the Mets.
