Querrey surprises Roddick in Cincinnati

Cincinnati, Aug. 19: Sam Querrey highlighted second-round action Wednesday at the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters by eliminating Andy Roddick in two tiebreaks.

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, the event's top two seeds, both advanced and Andy Murray survived as well.

The fifth-seeded Roddick, however, lost a 13-11 tiebreak in the opening set and then dropped the second in a 7-3 tiebreaker. That put Querrey in the third round against Lleyton Hewitt, who defeated Benjamin Becker 6-3, 6-3.

Federer opened his tournament with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Jose Acasuso. That set up a third-round meeting with David Ferrer, who had won his second-round match Tuesday.

Nadal, who has slipped to third in the world behind Murray but is still seeded above Murray in this tournament, survived against Andreas Seppi 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-3). Next up for Nadal will be Paul-Henri Mathieu, who defeated Ivo Karlovic 7-6 (11-9), 6-4.

Murray earned his third-round berth by downing Nicolas Almagro 7-6 (7-3), 6-2.
