Butler, who is second in the majors with 41 doubles this season, drove in the tying run in the fifth inning and then scored the eventual game-winning run on a two-out single by Alberto Callaspo.

Joe Buck added a two-run homer for the Royals and Gil Meche (6-9) got the win despite allowing four runs on eight hits and five walks in five innings.
Joakim Soria tallied his 20th save.

The loss went to Freddy Garcia (0-1) who was making his first start since last fall. Garcia, a key member of the White Sox staff during their 2005 World Series season, gave up five runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.

Paul Konerko and Carlos Quentin both homered for Chicago. Quentin's two-run shot in the third staked the White Sox to a 4-1 lead.
