John Damiano of Delran, N.J., said it took him six months of conditioning to prepare for the cross-country ride. He said he began riding at the age of 40 to improve his health, WPVI-TV, Philadelphia, reported Tuesday.
"It was 50 days, some days we'd get up at 4:30, then get on the bike, go 120 miles, we did 100 miles five days in a row," Damiano said.
Damiano said he is waiting to hear whether his ride qualifies for an entry in the
Guinness Book of World Records, but in the meantime he is planning another long cycling trek, this time from St. Petersburg, Russia to Istanbul, Turkey.
"I want to see all the developments. I want as many years as I can," he said.
