Garcia called up to start against KC

Chicago -- Freddy Garcia, called up from Triple-A Charlotte by the Chicago White Sox, started Tuesday's game against the Kansas City Royals.

Garcia was making his first major league appearance since last September while with Detroit. The White Sox signed the 32-year-old veteran in June to a minor league deal.

Garcia was 0-1 with a 1.80 ERA in four minor-league starts with Charlotte. He made two starts for the New York Mets' Triple-A affiliate in Buffalo earlier in the year, going 0-2 with an 8.18 earned-run average before being released.

The 10-year vet has spent parts of three seasons with the White Sox. His most recent was in 2006 when he went 17-9 with 4.53 ERA.

Garcia, still trying to recover from shoulder surgery performed in August 2007, returned late last season with Detroit. A native of Venezuela, Garcia has a career record of 118-77 with a 4.07 ERA in 266 games.
