MLB: New York Yankees 11, Seattle 1

Seattle, Aug. 14: CC Sabathia turned in his second straight excellent outing Thursday, allowing three hits over eight innings in pitching the New York Yankees past Seattle 11-1.

Hideki Matsui had a pair of two-run homers and five RBI in helping New York win its third straight and increase its lead over Boston in the American League East to 6 ½ games.

Sabathia (13-7) threw 7 2/3 scoreless innings against Boston Saturday, when he gave up only two hits.

Against the Mariners, he struck out 10 and walked two while throwing 102 pitches.

He did not allow a hit until Josh Wilson hit his first homer of the season in the fifth inning for Seattle's lone run.

Matsui hit his first homer in the third to give the Yankees a 5-0 lead and he had another in the eighth. Matsui also contributed an RBI single during a three-run seventh.

Ian Snell (2-9) took the loss, giving up eight runs on nine hits in six innings.
