Tiger Woods rallies for 70th PGA win

Akron, Ohio Aug. 9: Tiger Woods rallied and Padraig Harrington faltered late Sunday, and Woods went on to win the EGC-Bridgestone Invitational for his 70th PGA Tour victory.

Woods took the lead on the 16th hole, when Harrington unraveled with a triple-bogey 8. Woods finished with a five-under 65 for the round and 12 under for the tournament, edging Robert Allenby and Harrington by one stroke and winning the Akron event for the seventh time.

With 70 PGA wins -- five this year -- Woods is three behind Jack Nicklaus for second place all-time.

"It was a great battle all day," said Woods.

Tournament hinged on the par-5 16th and the layup shots made by both Woods and Harrington. Woods wowed the gallery by dropping a towering 8-iron shot from 182 yards out within inches of the hole and tapped in the birdie putt.

Woods, who had eagled the second hole, went on to finish with a birdie on 18.

Harrington, meanwhile, derailed on 16 where he had teed off with a one-stroke lead over Woods. His second shot went into the right rough, and his attempt to chip on instead wound up in the water hazard next to the green.
