MLB: Colorado 6, Chicago Cubs 2

Denver, Aug. 8: Ubaldo Jimenez struck out six and allowed only two runs through 6 2/3 innings Friday, lifting Colorado to a 6-2 win over the Chicago Cubs.

The Cubs lost their second straight and fell out of a first-place tie with St. Louis in the National League Central.

Jimenez (9-9) brought an 0-3 lifetime record against the Cubs into the game, but Chicago could score only on a double-play grounder in the first and a soft single to shallow center in the sixth by Alfonso Soriano.

Colorado overcame an early 1-0 deficit by scoring three times in the bottom of the first -- two of the runs coming in on a single by Brad Hawpe.

Chris Iannetta added a two-run homer in the fourth, helping the Rockies end a two-game skid.

Sean Marshall (3-7) lasted only two innings, giving up three runs on five hits to take the loss.
