Bartoli outduels Venus in Stanford final

Stanford, Calif. -- Marion Bartoli of France outlasted American Venus Williams in a 2-hour, 43-minute, three-set battle Sunday and won the Bank of the West Classic in California.

Bartoli, the No. 8 seed, ended up a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 victor over the second-seeded Williams, who won the tournament in 2000 and 2002.

It was only the second time the two have played one another on the WTA Tour.

Williams won the previous encounter.

The winner's check for Bartoli totaled $107,000.
