MLB: Cleveland 6, Detroit 5

The Tigers wasted a series of chances in extra innings before Cleveland made short work of Casey Fien (0-1), who was called up from Class AAA Toledo last week and was the eighth Detroit pitcher to see action in the game.

Peralta doubled on a 1-2 pitch to open the inning and Carroll singled to right on a 1-1 offering, ending the game.

The Tigers had their lead in the American League Central reduced to 1 ½ games over the Chicago White Sox. Minnesota, which fell to the Los Angeles Angels Friday, is two games behind.

Detroit tied it in the ninth on a two-run homer by Carlos Guillen, but could not finish off the rally. The Tigers put runners on first and third with two away in the 10th and then had runners on first and second with one out in the 13th without scoring.

Tomo Ohka (1-4) allowed four hits and struck out four over the final four innings to get the win.
