MLB: Colorado 4, N.Y. Mets 2

New York, July 30: Clint Barmes hit a two-run homer Thursday, Colorado broke a 27-inning scoring drought and the Rockies split a doubleheader by downing the New York Mets 4-2.

New York won the opener of the day-night twin bill with a 7-0 decision that featured seven innings of four-hit pitching by Johan Santana.

Colorado avoided a four-game series sweep with its win in the second game. New York had a five-game winning streak snapped.

The Mets owned a 1-0 lead going into the fifth, but Troy Tulowitzki drew a leadoff walk for Colorado, went to second on a fly ball and scored on a single by Ryan Spilborghs. It was Colorado's first run since the fifth inning of a game against the Mets Monday.

After Barmes gave the Rockies the lead in the seventh with his homer Tulowitzki tripled home Todd Helton.

Jorge De La Rosa (9-7) earned his seventh straight win, giving up two runs on three hits with five strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.

Jonathon Niese (1-1) allowed four runs on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings to take the loss.
