Starring Kate Beckinsale, Dakota Fanning, Guy Pearce, Forest Whitaker, Jennifer Hudson, Jackie Earle Haley, Jeanne Tripplehorn and Embeth Davidtz, the movie is set to open in New York Friday and in Los Angeles Aug. 7.
The R-rated ensemble drama is directed by Rowan Woods, whose film credits include "Little Fish" and "The Boys."
Freirich wrote the screenplay for "Fragments," based on his book.
"Rowan's film features incredible performances from all of its actors, and delivers an uplifting, emotionally compelling story that will connect with audiences worldwide," John Flock, chief executive officer of Peace Arch, said in a statement Tuesday.
"A moment of random violence erupts in an ordinary Los Angeles diner. The survivors find that the meanings of their lives have changed. No matter how much their families and friends attempt to understand, these individuals must follow their own paths to recovery seeking to regain trust in a world that now seems chaotic," a news release about the film said.
