Illinois football Coach Ron Zook said representatives from each school have met with Chicago Cubs chairman Crane Kenney about the idea, The Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday.
"I don't know when it's going to happen, but it would be an unbelievably great thing for both universities and the city of Chicago," Zook told the newspaper.
"There'll have to be some things done to get the logistics taken care of, but I had mentioned it to (Illinois Athletic Director Ron) Guenther a couple years ago. 'Wouldn't it be great to play a football game in the atmosphere of Wrigley?'"
Zook said the biggest stumbling block, other than funding the tilt, would be how to fit a football field inside the legendary baseball park. The last football game played at Wrigley Field was in 1970, when the Chicago Bears switched their home turf to Soldier Field.
"Their concerns are it's going to be a tight fit, the concerns for the players," he told the Tribune.
