LPGA adds event in Acapulco

Daytown Beach, Fla. -- The Ladies Professional Golf Association has added a tournament in Acapulco, Mexico, to its 2010 schedule.

The announcement Friday follows the resignation of former LPGA commissioner Carolyn Bivens June 13.

Bivens resigned after several marquee players wrote a letter, expressing their anger about the LPGA having lost seven tournaments since 2007, and a hugely unpopular mandate requiring all of its players to learn and speak English by the end of 2009 or face suspension.

"LPGA golf continues to generate significant fan interest in Mexico, and we're pleased to work with a partner who understands the value and benefits that our golfers offer," acting LPGA Commissioner Marty Evans said on the tour's Web site.

"Acapulco is one of the world's premier destination cities, attractive not only to national fans but those who love to travel to watch LPGA Tour at its best."
