Safina avoids upset bug in Slovenia

Portoroz, Slovenia July 22: Top-seeded Dinara Safina avoided a rash of upsets Wednesday with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Ksenia Pervak in the second round of the Slovenia Open.

<strong>Portoroz, Slovenia  July 22:</strong> Top-seeded Dinara Safina avoided a rash of upsets Wednesday with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Ksenia Pervak in the second round of the Slovenia Open.

Three seeded players were ousted Wednesday, one day after No. 2 seed Anabel Medina Garrigues was eliminated.

Maria Elena Camerin earned a quarterfinal meeting with Safina by defeating seventh-seeded Vera Dushevina 4-6, 7-5, 6-0. Safina is playing for the first time since she was defeated in the semifinals at Wimbledon by Venus Williams.

No. 4 seed Roberta Vinci fell Wednesday to Rossana de los Rios and Lucie Safarova, the sixth seed, lost to Stefanie Voegele 7-5, 2-6, 6-3.

The second round will be completed Thursday, with the highlight attraction sending fifth-seeded Sara Errani against Klara Zakopalova.
