MLB: N.Y. Yankees 4, Seattle 2

New York, July 1: Alex Rodriguez put New York in front with a two-run, sixth-inning homer Wednesday and the Yankees went on to down Seattle 4-2.

New York won its seventh straight game.

Andy Pettitte (8-3) allowed two runs on six hits over seven innings to get the win. He walked only one and struck out five. Mariano Rivera worked a perfect ninth, recording his 20th save of the season and the 502nd of his career.

Seattle lost on New York's home field for the 10th consecutive time.

Johnny Damon gave New York the lead in the third with a home run and Melky Cabrera contributed a blast in the fifth to again put the Yankees in front.

Ken Griffey Jr. tied it for the Mariners in the sixth, but in the bottom half of the inning Mark Teixeira reached on a lead-off single and scored in front of Rodriguez's 13th home run of the season.

The loss went to Jarrod Washburn (4-6), who surrendered four runs on eight hits in seven innings. He has lost six of his last seven decisions.
