MLB: N.Y. Mets 1, Milwaukee 0

Milwaukee -- Ryan Church hit a sixth-inning RBI single Wednesday to give the New York Mets a 1-0 victory against the Milwaukee Brewers, averting a three-game sweep.

His only hit knocked in Luis Castillo and produced the game's only run with no outs in the top of the inning.

Four others had one hit for the Mets, who had lost a season-high five in a row.

Winner Mike Pelfrey (6-3) gave up six hits in 7 2/3 innings with two walks and six strikeouts.

Closer Francisco Rodriguez recorded his 21st save despite putting the game-tying run on base in the bottom of the ninth with Ryan Braun's lead-off single.

Braun had two of the seven hits for the Brewers, who had won four of five.

Losing pitcher Yovani Gallardo (8-5) yielded just an earned run and five hits in seven innings with two walks and a career-high 12 strikeouts.
