Arlington, Texas June 28: Chad Gaudin and Heath Bell hurled a combined one-hit shutout Sunday, helping the San Diego Padres record a 2-0 inter-league win over the Texas Rangers.

Gaudin (4-6) gave up a single to Michael Young with one out in the bottom of the first. In eight innings, he threw 101 pitches with two walks and nine strikeouts.

The 26-year-old right-hander retired the final 13 batters he faced.

Bell earned his 21st save despite walking a batter in the bottom of the ninth.

San Diego's Scott Hairston had three hits, knocking in both runs with a solo fourth-inning homer and a single in the sixth. Kyle Blanks, Chase Headley and Kevin Kouzmanoff all had two hits for the Padres, who won twice in the three-game series.

Losing pitcher Tommy Hunter (0-1), making his fourth career start, yielded two earned runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings for the Rangers, who have split their last six contests.
