The Rangers managed only four hits, but two of them drove in runs early in the game and Texas handed Dan Haren a tough loss.
Haren (6-5) had compiled a 3-0 record with a 1.66 earned run average in his previous five starts. Haren, however, hit a batter and walked another in the second before giving up an RBI double to Taylor Teagarden.
Texas got another run in the third on a single by Ian Kinsler, a stolen base and a single by David Murphy.
The Rangers' pitching staff then took over, with the only Arizona run coming in the fifth on a single by Miguel Montero, a sacrifice by Haren and a base hit by Felipe Lopez.
Padilla (6-3) gave up a one-out triple in the sixth, but escaped the inning. Reliever Frank Francisco surrendered a lead-off double in the eighth, but also got out of trouble. C.J. Wilson worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his seventh save.
