MLB: N.Y. Yankees 8, Atlanta 4

Atlanta, June 24: Nick Swisher and Alex Rodriguez had two RBI Wednesday and Francisco Cervelli hit his first major league homer, boosting the New York Yankees past Atlanta 8-4.

Joba Chamberlain (4-3) gave up two earned runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings for the win and Mariano Rivera struck out the last four batters for his 16th save.

It was the 498th save of Rivera's career and he also batted for the just the second time in his 15 big league seasons. He flew out with the bases loaded in the ninth.

New York halted a three-game losing streak and won its second game in seven contests.

Swisher had a solo homer in the seventh and drove in another run in the eighth with a ground out. Rodriguez had a two-run single in the sixth that put the Yankees in front for good.

Kenshin Kawakami started for Atlanta and lasted three innings before Chamberlain hit a liner that struck the Braves' pitcher on the right side of his neck. No X-rays were taken and he was listed as day-to-day.

Reliever Kris Medlen (2-3) took the loss, giving up three runs in 2 2/3 innings.

Cervelli tied it at 1-1 by hitting a 2-2 pitch over the wall in left off Medlen in the sixth. The homer came in his 24th major league game.
