Beth Smith, of Peru, Ind., died Sunday when the sport utility vehicle in which she was a passenger collided head-on with a Greyhound bus carrying a semi-pro football team to Canada, The Fort Wayne (Ind.) News-Sentinel reported Monday.
The collision occurred on Interstate 69 when the SUV lost control in the passing lane, over corrected and crossed the median into the northbound lane, police said. It was not immediately clear who was driving the SUV.
Smith and her children were returning from a Father's Day visit with her family in Toledo, Ohio, police said. Her daughter, Abigail, and son, Cameron, both teenagers, were in critical condition at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, a nurse said.
About 12 passengers on the bus were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.
